1:12 a.m.- A long 19 hour day. The team is prepared for the first day of shooting tomorrow. Everyone was totally focused. We had several crew people come in from LA and NY. We had a great launch party at the sound stage. More people and crew are involved than I even realized. Looking forward to tomorrow. I'm up at 5:00 a.m. less than 4 hour sleep but myself and team are running off of adrenelin.

Jeanette, Ashley and her team sre still measuring actors and building sets at the sound stage. Geannetta and Ron are working on picking up production equipment,. Willie is picking up the out-of-town talent. Lucky is still re-working some of the location schedule. This is alot of work and get frustrating sometimes; but it is almost impossible to do great things without overcoming great challenges.

Yesterday we were able to securing Diamond Ruff bed for the shooting in the characters house. . It is beautifully crafted with a canopy. Today is a very big day. With our lead actor Fredro being picked up today by my long time friend and security specialist Willie Broadie. I really like Willie, I can trust him and he always has my back. he will be needed greatly on this project. Today Alec the director will begin his first rehearsals with actors. Kyle and I will be securing items and equipment with Ron the UPM for principal photography that starts this week. Vivian our PR director is doing a good job creating new opportunities for getting us exposure.

A long and FOCUSED day. Most of the dedicated is still working and it's after 10 p.m. I can only be grateful for a team that puts in almost 18 hour days on a regular basis. Today the production crew continued tech scouting our locations throughout the state. We also received our new DR logo and design. The logo went out to print on T-Shirts. They look good and will provide some extra marketing. I spoke to Felicia "Snoop" Pearson from "The Wire". She's excited to be part of the DR team, so are we. Tomorrow at 6:30 a.m.check out The Stan Simpson Show on FOX 61, myself, Kyle and Alec will be on speaking about the project. Vivian our PR director is doing a great job in attracting local and national media outlets. Today she began the process of following up on NBC network that will be covering the DR story. I think because of the project's uniqueness and quality it's drawing a large amount of media. All we have to do is stay positive, humble, work hard and stay focused and the success will come. Today was a good day.

We had a great producer's meeting today. We went over the final touches of the schedule presented by Lucky. The meeting made me think how far we had come. I remeber almost 2 1/2 years ago when it was just Kyle and I starting this project and now we have almost 20 producers working on this--and about 50 other production staff. We are definately being helped by God--and my mother smiling down.Today will be a big day. The Director of Photography will be flying in from LA tonight. Myself, my son Kyle and director Alec will be a taping on the Stan Simpson show that will air on Sunday. The big highlight yesterday was speaking to my long time supporter Gayle KIng who gave me some encouragement on the Diamond Ruff project. People don't realize she is one of the first people who put me on over 20 years ago. I am also proud of her. She recently aquired her own show on the OWN network.

Yesterday was a good day. The team made major strives in each of their departments. We had to do some schedule changes one of our supporting actors got casted for a part on a mjor TV show. We still have the celebrity but have to push back his scene later on in the month. This is great though because the more recognition he has it adds value to our film. Ellis our graphic designer showed us new concepts for the DR logo and poster. Kyle and I love his concepts, he is one of the best artist and designers I've seen and known in the last 25 years I've been in business. He is creating a great brand design. Today the team will have to implement even more focus w/out distractions.

We have a week before principal photography. I have one rule this week for myself and team: TOTAL FOCUS!
  • Entry 939: Sunday, August 28th, 2011

A long day. I had to fill out applications and forms, from equiptment rental to contracts. I really believe to pull off a project of this magnitude it's 30% craft and 70% business. The team is working hard today even on Sunday. The key to being successful now is being totally focused.
