Alec Asten
Alec Asten's fascination with cinematic storytelling evolved at the age of 12, while tinkering with his family's 8 mm Bell & Howell camera. His persistence in creating visual narratives led him to the University of Bridgeport's Department of Cinema and Television. His senior thesis film Justice, a 20-minute black and white drama about a 19th-century prison break, received numerous awards worldwide including the audience award at The Canadian International Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival.
Following graduation, the Mystic native became a freelance AVID editor, working in New York, Washington, D.C., Maine, and Vermont. In 1995, Alec moved back to Connecticut to became a staff director/editor at Sonalysts Studios in Waterford, Conn. With 20 years experience directing music videos, commercials, and corporate and broadcast documentaries, his passion for sharing his craft has also kept Alec in the classroom. He has taught various aspects of film production at several local schools including Mitchell College, Connecticut College, and the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Alec is founder and president of Southeastern Connecticut Filmmakers (SECTFILM), an organization that promotes quality filmmaking in the region.
