Michael Colyar

Some fans may know Michael Colyar as the voice of  Buford in Disney's The Princess and the Frog, or the concert promoter Showboat in House Party III. Some may know Michael from his motivational talks.

And other fans may go way back with Michael when he was dubbed the “The King of Venice Beach” for his weekend performances. For more than nine years, Michael performed five, one-hour shows a day on Saturdays and Sundays  on Venice Beach, Calif.  His thought-provoking humor left a positive imprint on his diverse audiences which encompassed the young, the old,  gang bangers, bank presidents, and all colors and nationalities.

The original host of  BET Live From LA, Michael's point-blank delivery and razor-sharp insight connected with his guests as well as the more than 55 million viewers. Michael brings the same high-energy, dynamic stage presence to every show, whether performing at a comedy club or talking to students.

Michael has gained attention for his generosity. After winning the $100,000 grand prize in the comedy category on Star Search, he donated $50,000 to homeless charities in the Los Angeles area. And, no matter how busy Michael is, he always takes time to share the laughter by visiting homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, schools, and military bases.

Motivational Speaker Les Brown encouraged Michael to get it together and to tell his incredible story of struggle and triumph to audiences around the world as he writes the book Michael Goes Motivational. Soon to be released is a book of poetry for adult children Miss Innocent Goes To Kool Skool and Other Silly Stuff.

His first CD, Michael Colyar’s Greatest Hits & The Great Unknowns, was released August 2010 nationally and on iTunes. In production for re-release is The Michael Colyar Project, a  comedy special taped in the projects of several major cities, including Chicago’s Robert Taylor Homes where he grew up.

Michael recently completed The Last Laugh, starring Tony Rock, which is scheduled to be released in 2011.
